Monte San Salvatore

Monte San Salvatore is one of the most popular hiking destinations in Lugano, the clearly identifiable humped shaped mountain which is the background of many of Lake Lugano's pictures is located on the western side of the city, it's uppermost towers are 912m above the Lake Lugano, because Monte San Salvatore is closely located to Lugano, this place makes an ideal picnic spot for tourists staying in Lugano.

Tourists usually like to walk along the trails and paths many of which pass through densely wooded slopes, Monte San Salvatore has a funicular railway that carries passengers to the peak of the mountain in approximately 10 minutes, this railway runs from March till November, however for energetic and adventurous tourists there is a walking trail available that takes a little over 2 hours to reach the top. This walking trail begins from the fringes of Lugano in Paradiso and is part of a much longer trail that leads to the peak, on the other side of the trail is the small village Morcote.

Campione d'Italia

Campione d'Italia is an Italian commune that is located in the Province of Como in Lombardy and it occupies an enclave within the Swiss canton of Ticino and separated from the rest of Italy by the Lake Lugano and nearby mountains. This is a place you must not miss when you go searching for the attractions around Lake Lugano. Campione has modern amenities to offer tourists and is also a centre for several literary and cinematic festivals of national importance, a visit to the Civic Gallery, the ancient church of St. Zenone, the church of St. Peter and the Santa Maria Dei Ghirli are other attractions in Campione.

San Mamete

Along with the Lake Lugano's northern shore is the quaint old village of San Mamete which is located within 15 minutes drive from Lugano, San Mamete is a small village that sits gracefully on lake Laguano's shore and is enclosed by thick wooded hills that slope down to the lake. San Mamete faces the south, this means that for most of the summer San Mamete bathes in Mediterranean sunshine and is just above the Swiss border and is part of the Lombardy region in Italy.

In spite of it's close immediacy to Lugano, San Mamete is a calm place where there is no hustle bustle and only has a handful of residents, this delightful community is the essence of tranquility and serenity, even the local populace eagerly shares their idyllic hideaway with foreign travellers and are always willing to welcome travellers with open arms and a friendly smile.

Alprose Chocolate Factory

The Alprose Chocolate Factory is sited just a few kilometers on the outskirts of Lugano and is easily accessible by train and car in a matter of minutes. The factory is owned and operated by one of the largest chocolate manufacturers in Switzerland and is open every day to the general public, the factory’s administration organizes a guided tour which takes visitors through the factory enabling them to see all the procedures and practices for chocolate production.

At the Alprose Chocolate Factory there is also a small in house museum that provides an entertaining glance back to the history of chocolate from it's early days to the present day. The tour finishes with a visit to the factory outlet where the complete Alprose chocolate selection is available for visitors to buy, you can also find a variety of free chocolate samples to choose from, no doubt the factory and museum tour is a great day out for chocolate lovers.

Zoo Al Maglio

Zoo Al Maglio is a small zoo located on the banks of the Magliasina River, Zoo Al Maglio is a wildlife park that boasts of having more than 100 animals and birds from various places from around the world, some of the animals and birds include leopards, lions, tigers, monkeys, panthers, parrots and a variety of exotic birds.

The zoo has been designed in such a way that it provides it's visitors with one of the best wildlife experiences, it also offers some unique adventure activities that children will love. In order to reach Zoo Al Maglio visitors need to take the train from Lugano station in the direction of Agno Airport, Caslano and Ponte Tresa and get off when you reach Magliaso, which is the stop that comes immediately after Agno, once you reach Agno you can either walk up to the zoo or can take a ferry or cab to reach Zoo Al Maglio.

Monte Generoso

Monte Generoso campground is located on the shoreline of Lake Lugano next to the small town of Melano, the campground is sited fairly close to the bottom of Monte Generoso, that's why the mountain and all the adventure activities are effortlessly reachable to visitors. The high point of Monte Generoso also provides some of the most stunning views in the region and a major portion of Ticino and Lombardy can be seen from the peak of the mountain, the campground caters primarily for touring caravans but can also provide a range of caravans for rent as well.

The location of the campground is such that it takes care of the comfort of it's guests and offers them the best of both worlds, the lake supports numerous water based activities and the wilderness of Monte Generoso attracts hikers and mountain bikers, the top most position of the mountain has several walking tracks that go out in various directions, the Monte Generoso campground makes an idyllic base to explore the area around Lake Lugano and Lombardy.
